Text File spec ignore *.pdf

we have text file specs similar to:
c:\users\bob\downloads\filename*
The particular files we need to process do not have extensions, example: 'filename-randomstringhere'
occasionally, or by user error a PDF file can be created example: 'filename-randomstringhere.pdf'
so, the question is, how can we ignore the .pdf files?
