Steve - I emailed myself the attached sample invoice. My OS is Windows 7. I resaved the image as a jpg file to the PrntBoss/ Logos folder and it works great. The logo I used is attached as well.

What version of PrintBoss is the client using? Windows 7 requires version 5.65 or above and we actually recommend 5.70 or above.

Gmail will not relay an SMTP account as it is viewed as SPAM. This is true of Yahoo, AOL, and other Internet e-mail services. You will need to use the IP address from the Service provider in order to send e-mail.

PrintBoss is not SSL compliant for email. It is designed to use an SMPT server that is SSL compliant.

Manually add missing e-mail address

PrintBoss has an Email Option variable that can be set in the form along with a condition. The option you want is /FP – Forces a Pause during e- mailing to allow additional e-mails or attachments. An example of using this option follows:

#[C,1][E, {EmailTo}]Assign EmailOptions, “/FP”

Let us know if you have any further questions.

Network Installation Doesn't Create Work Files

paula
Administrator
Work files are created when a file is printed to PrintBoss. Typically the work file resides in the Work folder in the PrintBoss Home Directory and the files are saved by Windows User Name. Each work station would have a unique work file based on the user’s login.

If a user prints to PrintBoss and there is no work file, this indicates the job failed prior to the work file stage. There are several things to check: 1) Verify the PrintBoss driver is properly installed and set to the nul: port; 2) Verify the user has Full Control of both the Transfer folder and Spool folder; 3) Verify the Print Spooler was restarted after the PrintBoss printer driver was installed; and 4) Verify the users have Full Control of the PrintBoss Home Directory.

The locations of the Transfer and Spool folders can be found under Options/PrintBoss Driver Settings. The default setting is ComAppData. Click on the Test button to determine the exact location for this shortcut. Prior to Vista, the location is C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Wellspring. The location for Vista and Windows 7 is C:\Program Data\Wellspring. Both the Application Data and Program Data folders are hidden by default. Adjust the folder settings to Show hidden folders. Permissions on the Wellspring folder should be Full Control, especially in Windows 7.

Printing crashes RDP

Though I would normally inquire what version of PrintBoss you are using, I googled your error and it appears to be a Microsoft issue. Try googling: faulting application name mstsc.exe; or mstsc.exe crashes from Win7SP1 to find answers.

BTW, only PrintBoss 5.64.9 and above are compatible with Windows 7.

The issue is with the raw data sent by the crystal report engine. Since this issue does not occur with server 2008, we have no plans to investigate this further.

PrintBoss and MACs

paula

While Wellspring is not generally in the business of Mac support, here are a few tips from a friend that does.

There are a couple of options for saving information from VM Ware on a Mac. First, you can back up the entire Virtual Machine that resides on the Mac. It is typically located in the user’s Documents folder. You may only see 1 file, but through Shared Folders you will see the Windows folder (whatever it is named) with all the files. This entire folder should be saved to an external source in the event the hard drive of the user’s computer crashes.

Another option is to click the ‘Take a Snapshot’ button at the top of the VM Ware window. This saves the exact state of the virtual machine in the Virtual Machine folder on the Mac so it can be restored later using the ‘Rollback’ button. This backup is useful if a file is accidentally deleted from the virtual machine and can be easily restored.

It is also possible to save key files to a location in the Shared Folder. However, this is a manual copy as the files need to reside in the Windows Virtual Machine to be used on a daily basis. They cannot be used from the Shared Folder.

We recommend that the entire PrintBoss folder be backed up regularly, whether it is in a Virtual Machine or not. Please see the Wellspring Forum post “Technical Support » General Questions » Recovering PrintBoss from backup” for additional information.

ACH BatchAmnt2 and BatchAmnt

paula
Administrator
I know we have already talked, but this is a good general question to answer on the forum.

The "Hide" option for BatchAmnt and BatchAmnt2 refers to hiding the decimal point. The total Credit amount for the Batch is displayed in the BatchAmnt field. This value is calculated automatically and begins at position 33 of the ‘8’ record and continues for 12 characters. The Debit amount is a feature of a Balance Record. A balance record creates a Debit entry at the end of the detail list (also referred to as the ‘6’ records) to offset the credits. Few banks require a Debit record. When one is required, select the Balanced File check box on the ACH Definition tab of the PrintBoss bank record and enter the appropriate information. PrintBoss will create the offsetting ‘6’ record and add the Debit amount from the BatchAmnt2 field on the ‘8’ record beginning at position 21 for 12 characters. Both BatchAmnt fields are right justified and zero filled.

Note: Once a change is made to a PrintBoss bank record, the check batch must be reprinted from the accounting software for the change to take effect. This is a security measure.

PosPayFileCounter

paula

The PosPayFileCounter value is saved in the PosPayCounters.ini file in the PosPay folder of the PrintBoss Home Directory. This ini file can be opened in any plain text editor and changed. The value to change is Counter = . Then save your change before exiting.

There have been changes to the counter over the last year, so it is important to use a current version of PrintBoss for this to work correctly.

PosPayFileCounter

paula

The max number of counters that have been requested to date is 2. PrintBoss has the PosPayFileCounter, and version 5.71.3 also has a PosPaySeqNo (Sequence Number) that can be used for a separate positive pay file. Both are located in the PrintBoss Home Directory, so there is currently no way to use either for more than one bank. The PosPayFileCounter can be manually reset before printing by adjusting the current value. It is located at the root of the PosPay folder in the PosPayCounters.ini file. This should be the first value in the list and is called Counter.

When the PosPaySeqNo is used, a new section is added towards the bottom of the list called SequenceNumber.

PDF Files

PrintBoss saves a temporary PDF file at the location specified on the Misc. Settings tab under Options/E-mail Settings in PrintBoss. The field name is Email Temporary Work Folder. The default location is C:\PrntBoss\Email. PrintBoss names the PDF files by the Form name followed by an underscore and then the Windows User Name. Only the last document processed is retained in the file and it is overwritten the next time a batch is printed to the same form by the same Windows User.

If you would like to save a PDF file on your system for every document processed, add a PDF copy to the Form and specify the file path and name. The Enterprise edition of PrintBoss allows variables to be used in the file path and name.

ACH Payee List Transactions

paula

The information for Payee List accounts do not export separately from the record. However, commands can be added to the Footer objects tab of the PrintBoss check form and printed on the ACH statement. This statement can then be automatically emailed to the recipient in the Standard or Enterprise editions of PrintBoss. The code would be similar to the following:

#Text 8.234R, 8.995, Arial/8/B, «Bank-ID Bank-Account Name Amount»
#For n=1 to 3
#If [>,{ACHMode[{n}]},1]
#Text 4.385, {LastLineY+.13}, Courier New/8, «{ACHRecvBankID[{n}]}-»
#Text 5.039, {LastLineY}, Courier New/8, «{ACHRecvBankAcct[{n}]}-»
#Text 6.250, {LastLineY}, Courier New/8, «{Pad:"{ACHRecvName[{n}]}",18,T}»
#Text 7.483, {LastLineY}, Courier New/8, «{ACHAmount[{n}]}»
#Endif
#Next n
#Text {LastLineXEnd}+0.01R, {LastLineY+.13}, Courier New/8/B, «Total Funds Direct Deposited: {ACHTotAmnt}»

This group would need to be encapsulated in an #IF/#Endif statement to define printing this account information for ACH statements only. The exact condition for the #If statement will vary for the version of PrintBoss. Versions 5.71.2 and above can use the following:

#If «[=,{PLPaymentType},1]»
...
#Endif

Was the MICR cartridge new or remanufactured? If the latter, you may want to contact the company or purchase and work out an exchange.
Significant adjustments should not be needed. However, if a printer is not using sufficient toner and the cartridge is new, there are 2 ways to increase the amount of toner on the page:
1. Adjust the Print Quality on the printer. This is done through the menu on the printer. Typically, the setting you need to adjust is the Black Density or Ink Density. The values are 0 to 5 with 5 being the highest.

2. If the MICR line itself needs to be darker, there is a Boldness setting in the PrintBoss form.
2a. Open PrintBoss.
2b. Click on the File menu and select Open Document Work File.
2c. Select the desired work file and click the Browse button.
2d. Select a document and click the View button.
2e. Double click on the MICR line. This will open the MICR Command Properties. Increase the Boldness setting to Bolder or Boldest.
2f. Click OK to save this change.
2g. Close the View and select Yes to save changes.
If these settings do not help, consult your MICR cartridge supplier.

Printing PDF copy if email is not present

paula
Administrator
The following code can be added to the top of the Footer Objects tab in your PrintBoss form:
#[Copy,0]ProcessPage «[Empty, {EmailTo}]»
#[Copy,1]ProcessPage «[!Empty, {EmailTo}]»

You will also need to set the Pre-process Assignments option on the Special Controls tab of the form to Special.

The ProcessPage command will only process the copy when the condition is met. In this case, the PDF will process when the email address variable is empty. Another way to use a condition is to look for the @ sign in the email address as follows:

#[Copy,0]ProcessPage «[!Inu, '@', {EmailTo}]»
#[Copy,1]ProcessPage «[Inu, '@', {EmailTo}]»

Copy 0 is the orignal copy for the form and assumed to be the PDF copy and Copy 1 is the first copy added to the form and assumed to be the Email copy. Be sure to replace the copy numbers in our example with the actual copy numbes of your PDF and email copies. These values are listed on the Multi-Parts and Printers tab of the PrintBoss form.

Error retrieving Bin Info.

paula
Administrator
The "Error retrieving Bins Info" is usually caused by incompatible dlls in Windows. Either the old PrintBoss dlls are still in the Windows spool folder and need to be removed, or an incompatible printer driver is installed on Windows 7.
The PB50 dlls (as well as all dlls) can be found by navigating to: C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers. Choose the W32X86 folder for 32-bit processors or the x64 folder for 64-bit processors. The dlls will be at the root of both the selected folder and the "3" folder.
If the PB50 dlls are current (2/24/2010 or later), then the error is caused by the printer driver set as the default for PrintBoss. Open PrintBoss and select a different default printer under File/Printer Setup. Use the Microsoft XPS Document Writer or a PDF Writer until the incompatible printer driver is identified. Once a compatible driver is selected, the bin error will cease.
HP Universal Printer Drivers are often the culprit, but any incompatible printer driver set as the PrintBoss default will cause this error.

Payee List Entry and Multiple Email Addresses

paula
Administrator
The e-mail field in the Payee List is 50 characters and cannot be expanded at this time. Other accounting systems have the ability to add an email field directly on the report form and PrintBoss uses that added field instead of the Payee List. However, I am not sure if an email field is available for the AP form in Timberline. I do know Payroll cannot be adjusted.

If an email field can be added to the Timberline Standard form in AP, we can assist you in assigning this field within PrintBoss after a sample check has been printed from Timberline to PrintBoss.

If only 1 vendor requires 2 email addresses and they do not both fit in the Payee List, we may be able to conditionally assign the email within the PrintBoss form. Please let us know if this is the case.
