Yes. PrintBoss will not send email via 64-bit Outlook which automatically installs on 64-bit computers. However, if 32-bit Outlook is installed, PrintBoss will send email.

Printing invoices from Accpac with doc no pdf

Using PrintBoss Enterprise, you can change the name of the PDF file by encorporating the PrintBoss variable {EMAILPDFALIAS} into the script of your PrintBoss form.

The name of the PDF file attachment is the same as the PrintBoss Form file name by default. PrintBoss Enterprise allows you to define the file name. The file name for the PDF attachment should to be entered in the Footer Objects tabs of the Form Editor with an assignment command and may use variables.

Two examples of the syntax for this assignment follow:
#Assign EmailPDFAlias, "Invoice from Wellspring Software, Inc."
#Assign EmailPDFAlias, "Invoice #{DocNo}"

Printing Blank Checks

Nancy
Administrator
Thank you for considering PrintBoss for your check printing needs.

PrintBoss has a utility for printing blank checks. You can view the documentation for printing Hand Checks from our website. Go to the Training tab and click on PrintBoss Training. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and choose the document "PrintBoss Hand Checks."

Hand Checks are printed independently of the accounting software and are used like a checkbook. Hand Checks print with the MICR, bank information, and company information, but require the date, payee, and the amount to be filled in either with the keyboard or hand-written after the check has been printed.

There is no limit to the number of hand check specifications you can create. Each file specifies a bank record, the format and the method for numbering the checks.

With regard to a specialized payroll system, we often do create custom forms for check printing. We would want to evaluate the output of your payroll system with you to determine the feasibility of the project.

Check Printing

While the standard, default check format is a stub/stub/check form, with PrintBoss you can develop other check formats. And depending on what your accounting software is, we may have a format already developed. For example, QuickBooks users that have the Enterprise version of PrintBoss can choose a top, middle or bottom check style.

So, the answer is yes PrintBoss can produce formats other than bottom checks, but HOW it is does depends on the Account Software and the version of PrintBoss you have licensed.

Stefan, we've found that often it is user permissions that prevents PrintBoss from processing properly. Each user must have full-control privileges and access to the transfer folder location as well.

PB message: newer version of a form is required

Nancy
Administrator
A PrintBoss message will display if PrintBoss cannot read the PrintBoss version number stored in the registry. The error suggests that a newer version of the form is required and processing stops.

The PrintBoss version number is populated from pb32.exe and updated in the Registry when PrintBoss opens. Manually updating the registry does NOT fix this issue because it is overwritten by PB32.exe when it opens.

One client using a 64-bit 2008 Server running Terminal Services received the error only for users who accessed the server through remote desktop. In this particular case, the cause was determined to be Windows Defender which is free malware included with the Windows OS. Disabling Windows Defender allowed PrintBoss to process the checks normally for all users.

PrintBoss stopped printing from QuickBooks

Nancy
Administrator
The first thing to check would be the settings on the QuickBooks printer setup screen.
You want to make sure you have these three settings correct.
1. PrintBoss NT40 or PrintBoss 50 printer driver is set as the printer
2. The Voucher style check the style choice
3. The box for ‘Print Company Name and Address’ is checked.

If this does not solve the issue, and you are using the PrintBoss 40 printer driver, use your Task Manager to see if the process PB32STUB.EXE is running. If it is not, run the PrintBoss setup program as a Workstation/ Printer Driver install type. This will restart the process. Note: if you are using the PrintBoss 50 driver, this step is not necessary.

If you are still having issues, feel free to call for technical support so we can look at this issue together.

Alert for Mis-matched Size and Orientation

Nancy
Administrator
It has come to our attention that after updating PrintBoss to the latest version, v5.70.0, many PrintBoss users are receiving notification regarding Size and Orientation mismatches when printing checks. In most cases, this message is being received in error, and if the message is ignored, the documents print correctly.

To suppress these alerts, please execute the following steps:

1) In the PrintBoss Master Application window, select Edit, then Form Files.
2) Highlight the form name of the PrintBoss form in question. (Example: QuickBooks users most commonly use the QB_CHK4 form.)
3) Click the ‘Editor’ button.
4) In the right-hand column, the second item from the top is a drop-down box labeled “Size/Orientation Alerts.”
5) Change the “Size/Orientation Alerts” drop-down box to read “Suppress Alerts.”
6) Click ‘OK’ to save the change.

This will eliminate the alerts.

If you have any confusion as to what PrintBoss form needs to be edited, you can select “File->Open Document Workfiles” to see a list of the forms that PrintBoss has used to help identify the form(s) that need to be changed.

Please be aware that in some cases the alert is a valid one and is indicating that the document sent to PrintBoss is not formatted correctly. In these cases, please contact PrintBoss Technical Support to determine the best solution. It is possible that reverting back to the previous executable, v 5.65.1 solves the issue.

Processing ACH payments with PrintBoss

Nancy
Administrator
Beginning with version 5.65.1, PrintBoss can be use to create ACH standard files for processing EFT payments through the Automatic Clearing House (ACH) system. Once setup, creating ACH payments files happens automatically as a check batch is processed. The only maintenance required is to keep your employee\vendor payee list current between check runs. The rest of the information comes from the PrintBoss Bank Account record and the check batch.

The PrintBoss software will parse payments to three separate accounts per payee. And it will distinguish between those payees that receive EFT payments and those that want printed checks. If you also want to E-mail an advice to the payee, PrintBoss can automatically do that too.

Documentation is now posted on our website. Go to the Wellspring Home tab, then the Support tab, and then Support Documents. Search for ACH. The top 6 resulting documents will explain the install and processing steps.

PrintBoss Release 5.70.2 dated 02/14/2011

Nancy
Administrator
The latest release of PrintBoss includes the following changes:

New Print Preview Option

Found on the Print Copies Dialog box, there is a new button available to Preview documents before printing. The Preview option creates a TIFF file in the Printboss folder and it is deleted when the Preview is closed.

New Positive Pay variables

By request, a {BatchCount} variable was developed to use in the PrintBoss Positive Pay Header record. The batch count will be updated as a final step to processing. Please note, this feature only works for single Positive Pay runs and not for appended files.

Also by request, a {PosPayLineCount} was developed to use with Positive Pay feature.

New Batch Printing Control option

A new 'Special Handling' control option was added to PrintBoss forms which will ensure that all copies of a batch of documents will be sent as a single print job. This will prevent the rare occasion of one print job interrupting or slipping in between copy types when printing to a network printer.

ACH Payee List Management

The Payee List Editor screen has been redesigned for easier data input.

New/Updated Icons

Newer XP style images have replaced several icons and bitmap files within the program.

Printboss not automatically launching

Nancy

Nick, you also want to check your QuickBooks settings. Verify these three settings on the Printer Setup Screen:
1. PrintBoss 50 is the printer
2. Choose the Voucher Style check
3. Check the box for 'Print Company Name and Address' on the check

If after a test print, PrintBoss still does not launch, try restarting the print spooler service under Administrative Tools.

Trial to purchase conversion

Nancy

Yes, all of the information you have setup in the trial version will automatically migrate to the purchase copy as long as you purchase the same version you are testing. You will run the PrintBoss setup program again, but you'll choose the 'Registration Only' option at that time.

Note, that if you purchase a version of PrintBoss that is different than your trial version some features may not continue to be available.
