We have a mutual client. They are using PBoss 5.39.9. We have some complex .PBF files deployed. Many are of the standard Printboss names. If I upgrade them to PBoss 5.64.6 will the PBFs get overwritten? If overwritten, can I copy back in my .PBFs and will they (v5.39.9) behave properly in v5.64.6?

The client does not want to use PrintBoss to print checks, at least not the last time we discussed this. They "only" need a Positive Pay file to go to the bank. Would PB support this situation?

Cannot Open Document Workfile error

This is a new install of PrintBoss. Accpac ERP100 V5.6.
When we go to print a cheque, we get “cannot open ca-ap1” error message.
We close the error message and print again, the system prints fine.

When I print a check without plugging the USB key for the signatures I will receive a message telling me “There is no disk… Retry reading disk ?” If I insert the key at this time and click “Yes” to retry, I receive the message “The signature disk in F:: is serialized for a different signature… Retry reading disk?”.

I can print the checks with the signatures if I insert the USB key before printing a check. If I wait for Printboss to ask me to insert the Key, PrintBoss doesn’t seem to recognized the signature files on the same USB key as you can see in the attachment and as you can see, the F: drive is available at this time.

Printer Selections: Locally

Our client has a number of printers distributed through their office. On the Multi-Part & Printers tab of the PB form, we've set the option for Printer and Tray selections to be "<Locally> Each User Must set his own" so that each user can print to specific printers depending on where they are in the building. The printer assignments are not usually their "Default printer" but rather set specifically on a wkstation by wkstation basis.

I'm finding that when I need to make changes to the PB form file and then save it, the printer/tray selection propagates from whichever wkstation I made the change on to the other workstations. Result is that the next time they try to print using that form, any wkstation without the same printers as the one I made the change from will get an error message stating something along the lines of "That Printer <printer name> does not exist", and they'll have to go in and reset the printers to be used.

Can anything be done settings wise to eliminate this problem? Is there a way to make the changes to form files without resetting the printer assignments for all wkstations?

I just have a question on reversed cheques. The client is using Sage Accpac ERP Accounts Payable Version 5.5 to print the cheques. There will be situations where the client will answer "NO" to the Accpac prompt "Did the cheques printed correctly?" (after the cheque has been printed in PrintBoss) and will reprint the cheques. Accpac will void the first cheque. However PrintBoss will not be aware that the first cheque was voided. Thus when they reprint the cheques for the positive pay, both cheques will be included in the import file (even the voided cheque). How would you suggest we deal with that problem?

My computer crashed, what files do I need from backup?

Recovering PrintBoss from a crashed workstation will first depend on whether the PrintBoss folder was located on the workstation or if it was located on a server.

If the PrintBoss folder was on your network, then log on as Administrator on the workstation, go to the PrintBoss folder and run the PrintBoss setup program. If the operating system of the workstation is Windows7, then you also must right-click and 'Run as Administrator'. Verify the settings on the first window of setup.exe. Check to make sure that the location is the server and choose the 'Workstation / Printer Driver/ Special Host Tasks.' Install Type. Click on Next and continue, taking the defaults to the last window where you will "Re-Install 'PrintBoss 50' Printer Driver on Finish." Click Finish.

If the PrintBoss folder was only on the workstation that crashed, you can copy the entire folder from a backup. This will ensure that you have all of the banking information previously entered, the current license file and any modified forms. Once copied to the new workstation, again, log in as Administrator on the workstation and run the PrintBoss/Setup program to load the PrintBoss Printer Driver into the workstation's printer list.

PrintBoss stopped printing from QuickBooks

Print Boss has stopped working. We are up to date with our contract and it printed checks within the past week.

When I have a check to print in Quickbooks and click on the Print Button with PrintBoss window does not appear. I went into the system and clicked on PrintBoss and brought up the window and the fields such as Batch Date and Trigger name are all blank. As far as I know we have done nothing to change the software.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

Slow Printing

One of my clients is having a similar issue with printing cheques from Adagio. To break down the problem;

Print to Preview is instantaneous
Print to PB is instantaneous
Print to the print from PB is instantaneous
However when left to work the user experience 30 to 60 minute delays from the time they print the cheque in Adagio to the time they finally come out of the printer. The print jobs can be found in the print queue for the physical printer.

This post doesn’t indicate what the problem/solution was. Do you know and/or do you have any suggestions? Looking at the manual pages indicated I don’t really see what setting might be the cause.

PRINTBOSS/EFT/ACCPAC - Drive Letter for USB Signature Dongle Issue

OVERVIEW:

There are basically 3 components that tie in to each other here

1. Sage ACCPAC (the Accounting Software) which runs off the server databases etc so it gets a live feed of the daily finance requirements RE: cheques to be cut

2. EFT Electronic File Transer software takes the authorized ACCPAC info and transmits an electronic request to the bank to release the funds for cutting the cheques (not the bank-supplied generic EFT software version which we can't use if we wanted to)

3. PRINT BOSS which has a custom USB flash drive containing the digital authorization signature that absolutely MUST go on the physical cheques printed off or they will be void


Issue:
There is a high security USB Flash drive that must be inserted in the EFT PC to allow the authorization and signing of cheque runs.

As part of the security on the Printboss digital signature the software manufacturer, Wellspring Software, coded the signature and the media together to tell PrintBoss where to find the signature; and tie the signature to a bank

There have been ongoing issues with error messages about not finding the signature file on drive letter A: when different users logon to the same machine and attempt the cheques print run

This is due to a line a script in the PrintBoss check form that defaults to A: Drive instead of the normal EFGHI drives it should be looking for (in Windows XP the A: & B: Drives are always reserved for the Floppy drive)


FIX:
It can easily be changed to another driver letter or multiple drive letters depending on the situation.

This would allow one user to insert the USB in their E: drive and another to insert it into their G: drive and have PrintBoss still recognize and print the signature. It only needs to be done once (per PrintBoss form) and will be effective for all users.


Open PrintBoss and go to Edit / Form files. Edit the user’s PrintBoss check form. This can be confirmed by checking the listed name in the CURRENT BANK field with the user to make sure that is the default bank they are dealing with.

Click on VIEW button to generate preview of the cheques along with the assigned drive. Then Double click on the signature shown there to bring up the PIC COMMAND PROPERTIES window for that signature. NOTE! if there is already an assigned drive letter then you have to uncheck the assigned letter selection to make the SIGDISK DRIVE LETTER field show.

If signature is missing from the View window then you have to manually go to the Footer Objects tab and find the following script lines:

Double click on each of the lines of script to open the ‘Pic Command Properties’ box. Note, about 2/3 down the page: ‘Sig Disk Drive Letters.’ Change the box to read AEFGH (all caps, no spaces).

Now the USB can be in the A:, E:, F:, G:, or H: drive of the local workstation no matter who is logged on.

The USB’s can be duplicated with the PrintBoss Utility if you need more to distribute.
