PrintBoss printer driver must be on NUL:

Nancy
Administrator
With recent installs of PrintBoss, several clients report that the PrintBoss printer driver is loading to the LPT1 port. This will not work. Documents will continue to go to PrintBoss, but never print. The PrintBoss printer driver must be on the NUL: port.

If the PrintBoss driver loads to LPT1, first clear the documents out of the printer. Then go to the workstations Printers & Devices list, right click on the PrintBoss driver and go to Printer Properties. Scroll down to the NUL: port and click 'Apply.' Next, go to Control Panel/ Administrative Tools/ Services and 'stop' and 'restart' the Print Spooler service.

Adele, try this:
#[Copy, 0]SkipPage «[Inu,'19075', '{ACCT}']»

Please note that you can just type #SkipPage on either the RunTime or Footer Objects page of a form, double-click on the it and the Command Properties box will display. There is a 'Condition' information button in the lower left-hand corner. When you clik on it, the 'Condition Function Template Selector' box will display. From this box, you can choose the conditions you want to place on your command.

Windows7 - error: No Flag in Document

Nancy
Administrator
Recently we have seen the PrintBoss error "no flag in document" pops up when printing a custom .rpt from Accpac on a Windows7 workstation even when there is a PrintBoss trigger (flag) on the preview of the Crystal Report. This seems to occur sometimes when the PrintBoss trigger line is simply a text object rather than a full, formula based trigger.

To fix this, first make sure you have the most current PrintBoss 50 driver installed (PB50ui.dll: 2/24/2010). Next, if the PrintBoss trigger in the Accpac report is simply a text object, you will need to create a standard formula based trigger. Using a standard PrintBoss .rpt you can copy the formula elements to your custom report.
Also, be sure that PB50 driver is set as the printer for the Crystal report. REMINDER: with Windows7 use Alt-P to get to the printer setup screen in the Crystal report.

Cannot install printer driver (Windows XP) I/O err

Nancy

For an error this subtle we would recommend updating PrintBoss to the latest version and use the newest PrintBoss 50 driver dated 2/24/2010.

Be sure to delete the driver that is currently installed, clear the registry and then install the newer version of the PrintBoss 50 driver after the upgrade.
Also, verify that PrintBoss 50 is loaded to the NUL: port. If it has installed to LPT1: move it to NUL: and then stop/restart the Print Spooler Service.

Other types of docs printed through PB?

This is an interesting idea, and it did work, but it may take a little trial and error testing on your part to get it right.

You can add a PrintBoss trigger to your Excel Workbook and then print the document to PrintBoss. The trigger should be the first line. Your trigger can be a text line as follows: PB#INFO [blank01]. It should be in caps and [blank01] represents your PrintBoss form name. Be aware of your page sizes too. PrintBoss can accept letter, legal or A4 paper sizes, either portrait or landscape.

PrintBoss can print documents to an individual users networked printer. The printers must be available to PrintBoss from the network. The Enterprise Edition of PrintBoss has features such as the ability to disregard Session statements, which can be useful in complex network situations.

Address lines not in order

Nancy

Brian, I believe the issue is that the complete address is not being captured and repositioned by PrintBoss. It can be easily fixed by either (1) updating PrintBoss and using a later version of the form and/or (2) connecting to your client's workstation via the web and looking over the situation. Please call for Technical Support and we'd be happy to help.

Envelope Fit for Checks

The perforation lines for our standard checks are not in equal parts as you have discovered. They are designed to remove the top stub and retain as a copy. The bottom two sections of the check will fit in our window envelopes and display both the Payee address and the return address. Using PrintBoss, placement of the addresses can be modified if necessary.

PosPay and reversed (voided) cheques

Since Accpac does not print a "VOID" cheque in this situation, the user will need to manually change the record type of the first cheque from "I" to "V" on the Positive Pay import file. This is a text file and the record type is the first value on the detail records, so it is easy to edit.

Multiple companies

PrintBoss was designed specifically to handle printing checks for multiple companies. You will need to have a PrintBoss bank record for each of your bank accounts. If one of your companies uses separate accounts for AP and Payroll, they need two bank accounts in PrintBoss. The PrintBoss software currently comes with 10 bank accounts to get you started. Additional bank accounts can be purchased in block of 5 for $75.

Printing Checks remoting using an IP Printer

Sherry, signal strength refers to how well the bank can optically ready the MICR line at the bottom of the check. There are three elements to determining signal strength: 1. How well the toner ink adhears to the check paper; 2. The printer settings of your destination printer; 3. PrintBoss settings.

To adjust setting in PrintBoss open PrintBoss to the Master Application screen (run PB32.exe). Go to Edit, then Form Files and choose your check form. Choose the right bank account at the botton of popup. Now click on View. Double click on the MICR line at the bottom of the check form. When you do that, MICR Command Properties Box displays. On the right hand side of that box is a Boldness setting. You can use the drop down arrow to navigate the settings from Default to Boldest. Adjusting this setting will increase the MICR graphic PrintBoss places on the check while staying within the required ABA guidelines.

MICR Line - Bank rejects

Nancy

Normally the same PrintBoss form would be used for multiple banks, so I'm not understanding the need for multiple forms. That said, it seems like you have reviewed the three areas that can effect the printing of the MICR line: the toner, the printer settings and the 'boldness' setting of the MICR line in PrintBoss. I would suggest testing the original form with all three new bank accounts. You can do this by running PrintBoss and going to Edit, then Form Files. Click on the form, then use the drop down at the bottom of the list to choose the bank. Now click on View or Print to see the MICR line. You can print copies of the check from here.

The current version of PrintBoss is 5.65.1 dated 04/07/2010. This is the version that is required for a Windows 7 workstation. The PrintBoss 50 driver is included with the setup.exe; which can be downloaded from the webpage. Go to www.wellspringsoftware.com then Support\Downloads. Please note, in order to update to the latest version, you will need a current Wellspring Software Support contract.

QB Check Number

Nancy
Administrator
The first thing to check is your settings in your bank record. The check number is not passed from QuickBooks to PrintBoss, so it is confirmed twice, once by QuickBooks and then the second time by PrintBoss. But, in order for PrintBoss to know that it should confirm the check number, there is a setting in the bank account.

If you open PrintBoss and go to EDIT/ BANK LIST. Choose the bank account you are working with and click on Edit.

On the PrimaryTab the settings should be:
·Bank Code (vendor checks) Enter the QuickBooks bank ID for this account followed by a colon and the companyname as it appears in QuickBooks. Ex: Bank:Company A

·Bank Code (payrollchecks)* Enter theword Payroll followed by a colon and the company name as it appears inQuickBooks. Ex: Payroll:Company A

·Bank Prompt (vendor checks) Enter AP or some word to remind you these arevendor checks
·Bank Prompt (payroll checks)*Enter PR or some word to remind you these are payroll checks
·Bank Name and Address Fill in the bank information for this bank record
·Company Name and Address Fill in the company information for this bankrecord
·Fractional Code Fill in the fractional code for this bank. This number often follows the pattern 12-345/678
·Next Check Number Fill in the next check number for this bank account or leave blank and PrintBoss will enter a value after the first check run
·Confirm Check Number at start of batch "Auto .."
·Always ConfirmAuto Bank Selection Select thisoption when:
o Payroll is run forthis checking account (company is not using a separate bank account forpayroll)
o More than one companyruns checks from this account

*Only create a Bank Account for Payroll in PrintBosswhen payroll has a different bank account number than AP.

On the MICR Tab the settings should be:
·Routing Number Enter the bank account routing number
·Account Number Enter the bank account number
·Check Number {BchkNo}or BBBBBB or BBBBBBBB

email Sent to Junk folder

I have some questions for you. When you send a test email are you manually attaching a copy of the PDF? It won't be created automatically from the test screen. The copy that is ending up in the junk mail folder, is it an external recipient or internal copy?

One suggestion would be to use a feature in PrintBoss Enterprise that allows you to rename the PDF to something the email filters will allow and recipients can more readily identify.

Will Printboss work with HP Officejet 7410

Nancy
Administrator
The quick answer is that since PrintBoss is a Windows application, it will print to any windows printer. While this is generally true, depending on what type of document you are printing, there are some special considerations.

1) If you are printing checks, you should use a printer that has MICR toner available for it. Due to the wide availability of Hewlet Packard printers, MICR toner cartridges are available for virtually all monochrome laser printers that are part of the HP "LaserJet" family of printers. (Notably MICR toner is NOT available for Color laser printers.) MICR toner cartridges are available for some other brands and models, but it would be important to contact Wellspring Software to see if it is available for a specific brand and model.

2) When printing documents to printers that use "ink jet" technology, the unprintable bottom margin is larger than on a "laser" printer. If your document has printing close to the bottom, it may be truncated. This can be remedied by changing the design, or using the form property in PrintBoss to flip the page top to bottom. This is a common problem when printing bottom checks on ink jet printers. In the case of checks, designing it upwards isn't an option, so using the flip top to bottom solves the problem.

3) HP printers are often supplied with more than one driver. For example offering a Postscript or PCL5e or PCL6 driver is common. Our experience is that the PCL drivers are more reliable, and even though the PCL6 is a newer interface, if there are odd problems occurring in the printing process, the PCL5e will often solve those.

Changing PrintBoss Network Location on Workstation

Nancy

Yes, you do run the workstation install again. Log in as Administrator on the workstation and if the operating system is Windows7 also right-click and 'Run As Administrator.' Then go to the PrintBoss folder on the new server and run the setup program. On the first screen verify that the location is the new server and the click 'Next.' Take the defaults through to finish.
